10 Actors Who Passed on Movie Roles

July 31, 2008 · Filed in List All, Movies, People, Photos · 20 Comments

Sometimes we can’t imagine another actor or actress in the starring role of our favorite films. Believe it or not, many of the most famous and beloved roles in some of the biggest movies belonged to another actor before they had to drop out or pass on the role. Some of these missed opportunities seem like good ideas, while others will make you cringe. Camera, Lights, List!

10. Will Smith - Neo, The Matrix

Will Smith passed on the role of Neo as did Ewan McGregor. Will Smith said, “You know, The Matrix is a difficult concept to pitch. In the pitch, I just didn’t see it. I watched Keanu’s performance - and very rarely do I say this - but I would have messed it up. I would have absolutely messed up The Matrix. At that point I wasn’t smart enough as an actor to let the movie be. Whereas Keanu was smart enough to just let it be. Let the movie and the director tell the story, and don’t try and perform every moment.” Will Smith went on to star in I, Robot.

July 30, 2008 · Filed in List Advertising, All, Movies · 3 Comments

The best part of a movie is rarely the movie studio’s logo at the beginning, unless you are watching a really bad movie. But we all can admit to being a little excited when seeing some of the following logos because that means the movie will soon follow. Some of these logos were all but forgotten until I saw the movie clips and read this list. I am very pleased to present this very clever list of classic movie logos along with a trip down memory lane for some of us older movie buffs. Now turn down the lights and enjoy the movie…logos.

10. Selznick

The mansion in the Selznick logo was a set for of its earliest films. Along with Newman’s chime fanfare, it radiates an aura of dignity without the stuffiness of the old Fox logo.

Top 10 Reasons to Fear Google

July 29, 2008 · Filed in List Advertising, All, Internet, Shopping · 5 Comments

There are naysayers in every crowd. They are the people who hate Microsoft because it’s so ubiquitous. On the same page, there are people who loath Wal-Mart because it is a global company that is supposedly wrecking local retailers everywhere. But when most people think of operating systems or cheap shopping, they think Wal-Mart and Microsoft.

Enter Google. Once just a search engine, it is now sprouting up extensions like Jack’s bean stalk on steroids. These extensions are what’s making Google so irreplaceable for many people who want the one stop shop. Google is fast becoming the Wal-Mart of the Internet. And it’s for that reason that some people are starting to fear the company.

10. Google Video

When most people think of looking for videos, YouTube is the automatic choice. However, Google has gone a step beyond YouTube. Not only does a Video search yield all of the YouTube results and play them in the Google window, but the search engine also searches the entire web for your content. While Google Video may not feature categories like YouTube, when you can search the entire web, who cares?

10 Possible Locations for the Garden of Eden

July 27, 2008 · Filed in List All, Religion · 3 Comments

One of the most speculated mysteries by Christians is the location of the Garden of Eden. The Book of Genesis is the primary source of information with regards to geography, but it contains very little on the garden’s location. Considering it was the birthplace of humanity and home to the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, it is no wonder we want to know where it was. The Biblical scripture below gives some clues.

“10Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided and became four rivers.
11The name of the first is Pishon; it flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.
12The gold of that land is good; the bdellium and the onyx stone are there.
13The name of the second river is Gihon; it flows around the whole land of Cush.
14The name of the third river is Tigris; it flows east of Assyria And the fourth river is the Euphrates.”

There have been a number of claims as to the actual geographic location of the Garden of Eden, though some of these have little or no connection to the text of Genesis. Most put the Garden somewhere in the Middle East, but this list shows a few more locations you might not have considered. Let there be a list…

Jackson County, Missouri, USA

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe the Garden of Eden to have been located in Jackson County Missouri. Founder of the Mormon church, Joseph Smith, discovered a stone slab that he claimed was an alter built by Adam after being expelled from the Garden. The garden itself was located 40 miles south, near present-day city, Independence. As for its location in the western hemisphere, some Latter-day Saints have presumed the continents were not yet separate before the Great Flood and that this approach would be consistent with the configuration of the super-continent Pangaea.

It’s amazing how much controversy a little doll, less than 12 inches in height, can generate. These days, the blonde beauty named Barbara Millicent Roberts, aka Barbie, is in the middle of a lawsuit. The controversy? Mattel claims Bratz, a line of dolls that has been stomping Barbie sales, was made by an employee at Mattel who had an exclusivity contract, and therefore, Mattel is entitled to some of the estimated $500 million to $2 billion in sales their rival is generating annually. Oh, well, Barbie has been to the moon, worked at McDonald’s been a fashion model and had countless babies. Bratz may come and go, but Barbie’s been around nearly 50 years and she can handle anything. So here is the list of the Barbies that have been the most fun to play with

10. The original Barbie – 1959

Original Barbie Doll

Look out world, because I’m a skinny, bad-ass model and you can’t tell me nuthin’! Why she’s fun to play with: Quite simply, as a little girl, you can play with this doll and imagine the day that your mom and dad won’t go bezerk at the idea of you wearing read nail polish. Top 10 Infectious Diseases

July 24, 2008 · Filed in List All, Bizarre, Health, Medical · 3 Comments

Warning: Some of the images and video may be disturbing. The common cold has no cure. Scientists have been trying for centuries to find the cure, which would undoubtedly make our lives easier. However, the common cold has nothing on these 10 infectious diseases. The diseases are, for lack of a better word, so viral that there is a high percentage chance that you will die from the complications. Some of these diseases have vaccinations, some have preventive measures while others are simply deadly with little chance of survival. To be included on this list, the virus has to have been a major cause of death in history with ranking based on fatality rates and impact worldwide. However, if a disease has been contained it will be lower on the list.

10. Smallpox

Smallpox

This variola virus had many forms and continues to be a required vaccination for many countries. Smallpox in its worse forms - hemorrhagic and flat – had the highest fatality rates with only a 10 percent or less chance of survival. Fortunately this disease has been the only one on this list to be completely eradicated from nature since it is only contagious through humans.

10. Louie Louie - The Kingsmen (original by Richard Berry)

While probably nobody remembers a version of this song as sung by Richard Berry, most people can hum the version that The Kingsmen produced. With lyrics that were barely intelligible, this song is notorious for singers shouting the chorus…and mumbling the rest of the song.

Top 10 Chick Flicks for Guys

July 21, 2008 · Filed in List All, Movies · 6 Comments

Since the beginning of cinema there have been movies that have appealed more to the fairer sex than to the hairy behemoths in the crowd. At the height of the 80s, those movies were given a new moniker – Chick Flicks. And since then every beer-toting, sports-spouting guy has dreaded that general movie genre. The genre has evolved as women have over the years with stories that feature more empowered and stronger women characters. A relationship film still rules the roost for the quintessential Chick Flick, but there are many movies that feature those strong, butt-kicking women that can make a guy turn his opinion around.

This Top 10 features 10 of those Chick Flicks that have the most potential for a guy not to cringe while watching the movie. They’re still Chick Flicks, but they could be categorized as guilty pleasures for some guys.

10. When Harry Met Sally

By modern standards, this movie starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan is an archetypal hit based solely on the relationships of the title characters. There are two things that make “When Harry Met Sally” tolerable for guys. The first is Crystal’s humor, neurotic and self-effacing at his best; and Ryan’s fake orgasm. ‘Nuff said.
