Top 10 Famous Monkeys

October 16, 2008 · Filed in List All, Animals, Bizarre, Movies, Television · 10 Comments

Yes, I realize this list contains some primates that are not monkeys, but Top 10 Famous Primates doesn’t sound nearly as fun as a barrel full of monkeys, I mean a top 10 list of famous monkeys. So take some time to monkey around and read a fun list of monkeys and other primates.

10. Bubbles The Chimp

Bubbles The Chimp enjoyed the good life at Neverland Ranch, surrounded by amusement park rides and pampered by his master, Michael Jackson. Bubbles was often seen meandering around the ranch clad in a diaper, and Jackson has claimed that Bubbles actually performed work duties at Neverland, such as dusting and cleaning windows. Perhaps due to his strange living environment and his creepy master, Bubbles became very disturbed as he grew older, displaying fits of temper and even biting several visitors to Neverland Ranch: he was banished from Michael Jackson’s residence due to his misbehavior.

Top 10 Tear-Jerker Movies

October 9, 2008 · Filed in List All, Movies · 16 Comments

It seems odd to think that many of us choose to spend our time in front of the big screen in tears, but crying seems to indicate a quality flick in many cases. Whether you are shedding tears of joy when the main character finally triumphs or lamenting the loss of a favorite, tear-jerker movies never go out of style. While my opinions may be slightly flawed (after all, I cried at Bambi all 17 times I watched it), I believe I can shed some light on the best films to rent if you want a good cry on a Friday night.

10. Old Yeller

There is nothing more touching than a boy and his dog and Old Yeller and Travis tug on our heartstrings from the first moment the two connect. Old Yeller proves himself to be eternally loyal to Travis and the rest of his family - even to the point of fighting off a rabid wolf. Unfortunately, the wolf means the long and painful end of Old Yeller and a devastating decision for Travis. It’s a multi-tissue movie that does provide a happy finale - thank goodness for all of us who suffer through to the bitter end.

Top 10 Self-Destructive Child Actors

October 1, 2008 · Filed in List All, Movies, People, Television · 4 Comments

Can you have much too much, much too young? These ten junior celebrities are proof that yes, you can. From drug and drink addictions to car and relationship wrecks, fame can spoil even the youngest souls. Fortunately, some child stars have overcome their destructiveness, whereas others are fading away, and may more have burnt out completely.

10. Haley Joel Osment

Hayley nearly did see dead people when he flipped his car in July 2006 driving under the influence of alcohol and in possession of marijuana. The LA born star, who made his debut in Forrest Gump aged just six, is best known for his harrowing performance in Sixth Sense and, despite his brush with the law, is still a successful actor, most recently in the heart-warming tale, Home of the Giants. Haley is at the top of the list for being, thankfully, the least self-destructive young actor of the bunch. After his misdemeanor, he paid his fines and did his time, which were $1500 and 26 AA meetings respectively.

Top 10 Movies that feature the Statue of Liberty

September 29, 2008 · Filed in List All, Humor, Movies, Television · Comment

The Statute of Liberty is not only an iconic symbol of America, freedom and worldwide friendships – she has also been in more cinemas than popcorn.  In most of her movie appearances she has played a peripheral role, lurking in the background as a torch-carrying part of the scenery.

The flying limousine in Team America (2004) took a detour round her diadem rays.  Her decapitated head appeared on the VHS box cover of Escape from New York (1981).  She was seen in the background in The Fantastic Four (2005), My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006) and Maid in Manhattan (2002), and who can blame her for lurking in the background of that movie?

However, in the following ten movies Liberty’s role has been much more integral than a mere background extra.

10.  Cloverfield (2008)

Twenty years ago films with wobbly camerawork and incomplete stories were called B-Movies.  Nowadays, these features are seen to represent artistic quality.  Cloverfield is a movie with very wobbly camerawork and an inconclusive storyline.  As with the box cover for Escape from New York, Liberty again loses her head for a movie with this one.  For those who haven’t yet seen the whole film, it’s enough to say that Cloverfield is a strange tale of alien invasion, everlasting love and even longer lasting camcorder batteries.

Top 10 Movie Trailer Recuts (Remixes)

September 6, 2008 · Filed in List All, Bizarre, Humor, Movies · 8 Comments

YouTube.com has provided some wonderful online videos for our entertainment. Most videos uploaded consist of people getting hurt by accident (shots to the groin), someone ranting on an esoteric subject,  a female with a titillating showing and, of course, movie trailers. But even better than normal movie trailers are the remixed or recut movie trailers. These edited trailers take an original trailer and show it in a very different light. For example, our #10 result is The Silence of the Lambs and, rather than a psychological thriller, it has be recut into a love story. Have fun and watch the top 10 movie trailers recuts. Lights. Camera. Laugh.

Top 10 Worst Lifetime Original Movies

August 20, 2008 · Filed in List All, Movies, Television · 2 Comments

The title might be inaccurate, because if you’re anything like me then the more terrible the movie, the more I love it…when it comes to Lifetime Original Movies.  Give me a bad soundtrack, overacting and horrible cinematography and I’m a happy camper.

Truthfully, though, many of these movies have redeeming qualities.  I can’t quite remember what they are, but I’m certain they have them.  In fact, most Lifetime Original Movies have a moral to the story…some wisdom to impart on the masses…so we can all learn and grow as people while we watch snippets of movies between ads for Target and Benefiber. Without further ado, here are the top ten worst Lifetime Original Movies:

10.    Cyber Seduction:  His Secret Life

He was a good kid who had it all…until he discovered porn.  Or did porn discover him?  Either way, after the porn he wasn’t such a good kid anymore.  He became secretive and soon the porn became an addiction.  He was addicted to porn.  Lucky for him his porn travels led him right to the hot but fast girl at his school (that’s one heck of a social networking story, folks) who intends to deflower him.  Does he get deflowered?  Does he disappoint his worried mother (played by Kelly Lynch, who has played some pretty sexy roles herself)?  Do you really care?

Top 10 Whistles of Movies, TV and Radio

August 19, 2008 · Filed in List All, Movies, Music, Television · 10 Comments

No one’s ever put a list of musical themes, adapted or original, in a list before, so I thought I’d be the first! All are whistled solo, not part of any songs, and while most are from movies, there are two from TV, and one from the golden days of radio. [Editor's Note: I tried my best to find clips and audio for this list, but couldn't always find just the right one. If any readers know where to locate missing or a better example of the audio, please email us.]

10. A Fistful of Dollars

This first film of Sergio Leone’s “Man With No Name” trilogy not only made Clint Eastwood a superstar but also put Ennio Morricone in the movie music pantheon. I choose it because that whistled theme sets up the sardonic, ironic tone of the movie practically all by itself.

Top 10 Inspirational Movies

August 16, 2008 · Filed in List All, Movies · 3 Comments

With so many amazing movies out there, it is hard to come up with 10 that we think are the most inspirational.  In some ways, we agree with AFI’s Top Inspirational Movies, but we added a few of our own.

If you’re curious, we used a rating system based on the five major components of inspirational movies:  a likeable hero, the overcoming of obstacles, acts of selflessness, and (most importantly) whether or not you feel good after watching.  At the prompting of the author’s husband, we added a category for inspirational music.  Because truthfully, doesn’t really go down in history as a crazy-inspirational movie if the music doesn’t do that thing to your belly.

It’s also good to be inspired to do something with this newly acquired inspiration.  We didn’t count that as part of the grading criteria, because we didn’t want to have to include An Inconvenient Truth or that Sarah McLaughlin ASPCA commercial.  We decided to keep it light(ish).  Without further ado, here are the top ten inspirational movies.

10.  Star Wars IV:  A New Hope

Bottom Line:  do you feel good when this movie is over?  Never better, right?  It’s a combination of a truly inspirational theme song, a likable bunch of heroes (Han Solo being the MOST likeable, of course), overcoming obstacles like Darth Vader and a whole Galactic Empire, and did we mention the inspirational music?  Bonus points for the triumphant whinny of Chewbacca upon receipt of his medal.  Pretty darn inspirational.

10 Actors Who Passed on Movie Roles

July 31, 2008 · Filed in List All, Movies, People, Photos · 20 Comments

Sometimes we can’t imagine another actor or actress in the starring role of our favorite films. Believe it or not, many of the most famous and beloved roles in some of the biggest movies belonged to another actor before they had to drop out or pass on the role. Some of these missed opportunities seem like good ideas, while others will make you cringe. Camera, Lights, List!

10. Will Smith - Neo, The Matrix

Will Smith passed on the role of Neo as did Ewan McGregor. Will Smith said, “You know, The Matrix is a difficult concept to pitch. In the pitch, I just didn’t see it. I watched Keanu’s performance - and very rarely do I say this - but I would have messed it up. I would have absolutely messed up The Matrix. At that point I wasn’t smart enough as an actor to let the movie be. Whereas Keanu was smart enough to just let it be. Let the movie and the director tell the story, and don’t try and perform every moment.” Will Smith went on to star in I, Robot.
