Usual suspects, but surprised to see Chita over Ethel. New legends, Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel , Audra McDonald, and Harvey Fierstein (kidding, not really)

Bernadette Peters premiered in “Dames at Sea” in 1966 at the Caffe Cino, Off-Off Broadway, before it moved to Off. http://caffecino.wordpress.com/1913/01/01/let-the-dames-begin/

Barbra was only on Broadway twice, and once was a supporting role with only one song. Overrated.

Really, Chita Rivera over both Patti LuPone and Angela Lansbury? Come on.

I think this list should be renamed “Top 10 Classic Broadway Women.” That way everyone could be happy when we have a “Top 10 Modern Broadway Women” list which would include, in no particular order:

Sutton Foster (maybe she can be at the top)
    Idina Menzel
    Kristin Chenoweth
    Kelli O’Hara
    Rebecca Luker
    Audra McDonald
Patti LuPone (she belongs on both lists)
    Bebe Neuwirth
    Sherie Renee Scott
    Linda Eder

Agreed…. move Angela up. Gwen too while you are at it. Chita, Ethel, Mary, Gwen and Angela are all tops.

I think Angela Lansbury should be a little higher than #7. There's a reason they hand out those Tony's…

This is basically the worst order possible. Patti LuPone above Angela Lansbury?

Chita over Ethel ?? That’s crazy. Ethel is the queen of broadway and is a way better singer than Chita. Its a shame Audra Mcdonald, Idina Menzel, Sutton Foster, and Alice Ripley aren’t on the list

Awesome list! I'm actually distantly related to Mary Martin (she was my great-grandmother's cousin). Personally, if I was going to include anyone else, it'd be Kristin Chenowith. And maybe Idina Menzel – can you guess that I'm a "Wicked" fan?

My little sister might be on a list like this someday, if she's as successful as she wants to be.
