This list is probably the most researched and arduous one that I have ever seen. In fact, I am going to hand write this list down in my notebook (Seeing that I don’t have a printer). A Very BIG Kudos to the author of the list !!

Great list and interesting but what is the point in having words this long? I mean can anyone actually pronounce numbers 4-3–2 and 1 correctly when speaking? Still a very interesting list and well written.

I remember when I was a 10 year old boy and I was home from school with a fever (I am originally from New England, so winter’s can be harsh). My father came home from work and gave me a book. It was The Guinness Book Of World Records. At that time, No.8 on this list was the longest world in the English Dictionary and could only be found in OED (Oxford English Dictionary) Now we have a word exceeding 189,000 letter. A few months ago, I went to get a prescription filled at a pharmacy and out of curiosity asked the Head Pharmacist as to where these names for medications come from. I was expecting something of Greek or Latin. He told me that each company has a panel of about a dozen people or so and they just dream up these names. I wonder how far there going to take it.

Actually, the last 2 that are chemical names are really just consistently repeating the names of the amino acids that make them up, it’s not like it’s all one gigantic mess of random letters that actually manage to create a legitimate word. Still, the length is incredibly impressive in each case

Antidisestablishmentarianism is the only word on the list I’m familiar with. It seems, in my memory, that when I was a teenager someone correctly spelled this word and won a National spelling bee contest somewhere. I believe it was a young black girl. That was a long time ago and I’m not sure of the details but it does seem like it was said at the time that this was the longest word of all. So if my fading memory is correct these other words must be fairly new.

This is the longest real word. The others are made up. Anti… seems like an easy word to spell, no silent letters or anything…pretty straight forward

What does “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” even mean? Does it mean anything, or is it just a song that has no meaning?
